PROPER FOOTWEAR - Slippahs (or flip-flops) are the chosen form of footwear here in Kauaʻi, but a pair of hiking boots or sneakers with proper traction are a plus should you plan to do any hikes. If you do decide to pack water shoes, they work well to protect your feet against rogue rocks in the ocean. However, reef walking is both unsafe and unhealthy for the reef-dwelling marine life, so be sure to steer clear and stay safe. HYDRO FLASK - Although you are not allowed to bring water in your hydro flask through the airport, there are plenty of places to fill your flask once you arrive. - [Sailing 101](https://holoholocharters.com/blog/sailing-on-kauai/): The art of sailing is as old as the islands of Hawaiʻi. Skilled Polynesian navigators traveled far distances to settle alongside native Hawaiians, using double-hulled sailing canoes known as waʻa kaulua. As Polynesian settlers made their home in Hawaiʻi, the evolution of the vessels included using locally-sourced materials like koa wood. The waʻa kaulua evolved to become known as the Hawaiian sailing canoe, or wa’a kaulua Peleleu, used for fishing, travel, and wayfinding. The crafting of these vessels was and is still a very spiritual experience for the boat builder. The craftsman creates with aloha in their heart, producing strong boats with mana built right in.

- [The Legend of Spouting Horn](https://holoholocharters.com/blog/legend-of-spouting-horn/): If you visit the southside of Kauaʻi one of  your stops will surely be world-famous Poiʻpū Beach, known for its monk seal sightings, playful sea turtles, and gorgeous beachfront. Just west of Poiʻpū you’ll find the Kukuiʻula Boat Harbor - popular for family beach days or sunset picnicking. As the road narrows along the coast, you’ll pass the National Tropical Botanical Gardens (NTBG) on your right, with daily tours and weekly farmer’s market and hula demonstrations. (Jurassic Park fans,  remember when Dr. Alan Grant and the kids discovered the dinosaur eggs? Those as-seen-on-the-big-screen trees are at the botanical gardens!) Directly across from NTBG is where you’ll find the legendary Spouting Horn. An easy stop-and-site-see spot, Spouting Horn is a natural geyser/blowhole called puhi, or blowhole by Hawaiians. The dramatics of the spout changes day-to-day depending on the swell, but when the conditions are right, the power of Spouting Horn is an incredible force of nature.

We were one of the first tenants to occupy the newly opened Port Allen Marina Center, offering an efficient setup allowing our check-in location and support offices within walking distance of our beautiful vessels docked at the Port Allen pier. - [1st Kauai Humpback Whale Sighting](https://holoholocharters.com/blog/humpback-whale-season/): Tuesday, October 1st: Captain Aaron and crew on Holo Holo Charters’ Adventurer II spotted the first humpback whale of the season about a mile off Ke’e Beach. The vessel was carrying 24 passengers who all witnessed the whale leaping out of the water, which allowed the Captain to properly identify the animal as a humpback whale. “No doubt about it, it was an adolescent humpback whale and it breached three or four times” said, Captain Aaron. It’s official, Humpback whale season in Hawaii is here!
